Methamphetamine Information

Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant.

It is a synthetic drug, closely related chemically to amphetamine, except it produces more powerful effects on the central nervous system.

The drug’s effects are described by some users as similar to those of cocaine, although inducing more of a “focused” sensation and having longer lasting effects.

It is generally found in three forms:

  • Powder: An odorless, bitter-tasting, white crystalline powder.
  • Crystal: This pure form of crystalline methamphetamine is generally called “Ice”.
  • Rock: Big chunks of methamphetamine crystal, usually having a yellow tinge.

Methamphetamine can be intravenously injected, ingested orally, smoked or snorted; altering the mood of the user in differing ways, depending on which method it is taken.

It increases energy and alertness, and in higher doses, its effects can include; enhanced self-esteem, euphoria, and increased sexual pleasure.

Methamphetamine increases levels of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, activating the psychological reward system. The result; addiction can develop quickly with frequent use.
